Remember when we talked about creative block? Well I discovered a new gem that focuses on the creative process specifically – Elizabeth Gilbert’s Magic Lessons podcast.
Liz takes essays from real life creatives (writers, dancers, photographers, you name it) and partners up with a well-known person in their field that can give them very specific insights. It’s interesting hearing some of the creative greats (including Neil Gaiman) share their personal struggles with creating and a great reality check that nobody is immune from criticism or other roadblocks. It is so relatable and fun to listen to.
I am a little late to the game here as there are already 2 seasons of this podcast available, but that makes binge listening so much easier! When you listen to Magic Lessons you are listening to Gilbert’s peaceful voice and she acts as the host/guru guiding her creative guests. She coaches people through creative obstacles and difficulties and it is fascinating. They talk candidly about creativity, fear of failure, and a variety of other topics. Magic Lessons are roadmaps for the path to creativity, the extra nudge we need when we’re feeling stuck in our creative lives. The podcast evolved out Gilbert’s book Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear. In the book she discusses the attitudes, approaches, and habits we need in order to live our most creative lives.
