I fell in love with Amy Hempel’s writing the moment I read The Harvest. One can only aspire in their lifetime to write as beautifully as she does. “It’s all about the sentences,” Rick Moody writes in his introduction to her latest collection, “It’s about the way the sentences move in the paragraphs. It’s about rhythm…. It’s about the way emotion, in difficult circumstances, gets captured in language.”
This image is another idea that has been mulling around in my head for quite a while. The idea that yes we are all indeed “somebody’s harvest.” Working on this also gave me the opportunity to try out some digital mixed media. I have mixed vector, digital texture, and collage to complete the piece.
You can read The Harvest here. I hope it inspires you to seek out more of Hempel’s work.
